WIW for Sat. errands, and my lesson for the day

Apologies (as usual) for poor picture quality. Wanted to post this WIW as an exercise in learning. Not about photography or the outfit in general, but about those skinnies.
I have a love-hate with skinny jeans. I love how they look--on other people. No matter the shape, size, or age of the person, I think they look decent. But when I wear them, the evil tape recording in my head starts playing, listing all the reasons why I don't have the right body for them.

So I made myself take the picture, and I'm posting it here (I cut my face off because I don't feel well and can't be bothered smiling for a camera today). And ya know? They don't look half bad. Certainly not as bad as I think they look on me.

There's my lesson for the day--if the camera's not lying, then maybe I should be a little more adventurous.

I still hate this pair of jeans, though--they don't fit properly. :)

That was very brave of you! (Imagining making myself take a picture when I feel I look bad.) You look great in your skinnies!

Good for you for posting! And you look great in the skinnies.

Also, did you knit the sweater? I recognize the pattern. =)

Well done - that's a great thing to do.

You know what made me finally try skinnies? Seeing a picture of Christina Hendricks wearing a pair of them, and wearing them well even though she is not a tiny wisp of a thing. Now I can't imagine my wardrobe without them! I think eventually our eye gets accustomed to seeing ourselves in a new style.

Anyway, I think you look great -- what we can see of you. :-) Maybe now it's time to shop for a pair of skinnies you don't hate!

Good that you've realised you can wear skinnies and look good.
Sounds like it's time to find a pair that makes you feel good too.

    Thanks, everyone!
I initially took the picture because I wanted to see if the way I felt they looked was reflected in the camera. I posted it because, as it turns out, it wasn't. Good lesson to learn!

Diana, I did not knit the sweater, but a friend of mine did. We did a sweater swap because she has a horrible habit of accidentally knitting sweaters that fit me instead of her. I finally just picked out the pattern. :) (I knit her one in return) In my next life, I want to be Norah Gaughan.

You look great in skinnies.  It took me a while to adjust my eye to weraing them myself.  As a pear shape I felt all they did was accentuate that I'm a pear shape!  Finding the right pair can be a challenge.  For myself, I actually look at straight legs, because on me they fit like a skinny jeans but aren't skin tight.

Always nice to meet another knitter! :)

I find them to be flattering to most, especially for Pretty Pears, 'cause we can layer volume on top as you did here.

You look really good in them. Do they fall down or something?

  • froggiebecky replied 10 years ago

I look like hipster guy in them after about 2 hours--they slide down. I also fail to understand how this pair jeans can be so tight through the hips and calves, yet still give a diaper-butt effect. The engineering principles behind that elude me.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Right?! What is up with that?

But I have to tell you, Gaylene and Diane gave me a whole education in the tailoring of pants.

Oh, yeah...that happens with some skinnies that are low rise and have a bit of stretch. Such a nuisance.

    But...um..you look great!

A belt is my best friend in these situations.

Hooray for you. I guess most of us have that evil tape playing in our heads from time to time - so it's good to see that you have proven it wrong.
